Wow, in some interesting news today Citrix just flipped off it's channel and told Avnet, Alternate Technologies and Tech Data to get lost. In a letter to resellers today, Citrix announced that Ingram Micro will become the sole distributor for all of Citrix's products in North America effective August 30th, 2008. This poses several problems. One, many resellers do not work with or like to work with Ingram Micro. Having single distributor hurts competition as Ingram Micro is free to charge what they want. They can even go so far as to charge different resellers different prices. In the end, this hurts both the reseller and the customer. Finally, in this Press Release, I found this quote from Peter Anderson hilarious, "We’ve been a Citrix partner for eleven years and they’ve never let us down, ..." I guess someone forgot that time (2002-2003) when even Platinum partners were getting screwed by ISV pricing. Let's not forget, shall we? It's the reason Citrix has all these channel programs.

Did you know that Citrix has a tool that can help you clone Presentation Servers/XenApp 4.0/4.5? It was developed by Pete Downing and friends to integrate XenApp with Provisioning Server. Specifically to allow XenApp to work with PVS’s standard image mode. If think about it, every time you stream a XenApp standard image it’s exactly like cloning a server.

I’ll be helping Steve Greenberg with is his Day 1 10:00 am Hardware vs OS Virtualization session. Later in the day, Steve and I are presenting the “Why VDI” session or as we call it “Y-VDI”. That session will go on at 5:30 pm on Day 1. The Y-VDI session is going up against heavyweights Brian Madden, Rick Mack and Claudio so in order to entice you to see our session I have aquired some cool t-shirts to give away as prizes. ;o) Finally, at 8:30 am Day 3, Rick Mack, Eric Musgrave, Tim Mangan and myself will conducting the “Bring us your hardest printing problems Workshop”. Yes t-shirts will be given away in all 3 sessions. As for the rest of the sessions, they all look awesome so you really can't go wrong. The conference guide can be found here. Joe
